Coda plus Pixelmator – a good alternative to Dreamweaver and Photoshop
I like many people have been using the Adobe combination of Dreamweaver and Photoshop to do pretty much all my web development for the past few years. However, I’m hardly what you would call a power user. Dreamweaver I use Dreamweaver as file editor, I don’t really us the visual editor stuff as I’m usually editing WordPress templates. So I got the impression that A) I wasn’t really using it to it’s full potential and b) the stuff that I did use it for was pretty hopeless. On the plus side, it has a perfectly good programmer’s file editor, with the CSS editor being pretty handy, however! The site aner leaves a lot to be desired, frequently getting confused over what has been more... -
Add a nice carousel of recent posts
I’ve wanted a nice compact way of displaying the most recent posts of my main page, and I though a carousel type display, similar to those use for headline stories on thge BBC news website would be good. To do it you’ll need: A wordpress site. Recent posts plugin Posts PluginInfinfiy Caroseul. The way my site is setuo, is that I have the news posts plasged ob /news, rathere than being the main mage whic is the default. I then nominated a page to be my front page. You want the first page of your site to look special, so I’ve created a new template especially for the font page. The only difference really, is that is has a widget are or sidebar as well as a content more... -
Dexter season 6 teaser
Full disclosure: I love this show, in my opinion, it’s easily the best show on TV. It’s safe to say that I cannot wait for season 6 to start. I’ve just re-watched seasons 1 through 3, and I’m in the process of trying to convince my wife that she likes it too. That way it will be easy to make time to watch it, between feeding twins. Let’s just say she likes her TV a little lighter than this. I should give her her dues, she did watch the first season of The Walking Dead with me, although I think it was just because Andrew Lincoln from This Life was in it. Yes, it’s critics will say it’s all more... -

Kings of Leon gig
I had an excellent time on Sunday night with my old friend Robert. As you can see from the photo, we were in the ridiculously expensive “cheap seats”. Not my choice, as Robert got the tickets from a friend of a friend. The last time Is saw Kings of Leon live was in Bar Fly (or possibly King Tuts) in Glasgow, in 2003. I think I paid £5 and I was 10 feet from the band. Safe to say I paid a lot more than that 200 meters away. I use the excellent Photosynth app from Microsoft to take this panoramic shot. I did it in a bit of a hurry with mixed low and bright more... -

A month in Shanghai
I though this might make a suitably interesting topic as y first blog entry. Though my work a a technical manager in GE, I got the opertunity to help establish a new development team at the GE’s China Technology Centre in Shagnhai. I love to travel and have always wanted to visit the far east, so I jumped as the chance to live and work in Shangahi for a month, with a week in Australia jammed in middle. While in Shanghai, an opertunity came up to do some customer training for one of our Australian customers. I love Australia and was looking for some experience as a trainer so again, I jumped at the chance to travel down. I foolishly had it my more...
